Akaso V50 Pro

Rexcel reviews her latest action camera, the awesome AKASO V50 Pro.

When we were looking to buy another action camera, we decided to invest in one which supported 4K video recordings natively. More than one model from action camera manufacturer Akaso fit that bill; especially the ones listed under the Akaso V50 series.

Akaso V50 Pro

Everyone was recommending the Akaso V50X and I must admit, at one point, we were quite convinced we should get that one too. However, when we looked at some of the comparison videos available on Youtube, we changed our minds and made a decision to get the Akaso V50 Pro instead for the following 2 reasons:

  1. The audio recorded with the Akaso V50X was absolutely rubbish.
  2. Although the stabilization on the videos taken with the Akaso V50X seemed better overall, the resulting video seemed cropped. Since we intend to use our gimbal with this action camera, we chose video quality over stabilization quality (of the camera). In video quality, the Akaso V50 Pro wins hands down.

It took quite a while to arrive; 11 days to be exact. But since the item was shipped from China (to Manila, Philippines) and with all the current issues with COVID-19 and how the dreaded disease is impacting people from doing their jobs properly, it is quite amazing that it didn’t take any longer.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the Akaso V50 Pro is $119.99 according to their product page. That’s a little over ₱6,000 when converted from USD to Philippine Piso, at today’s rate.

Even online, the best price for this action camera is typically over ₱5,000 these days.

However, we paid only ₱4,677 for our Akaso V50 Pro, including delivery charges.

We were lucky because we had ordered it on a very special day when the online selling platform and the manufacturer, had both offered vouchers/discounts for the same item. It was a one-day only promotion and opportunity, and we grabbed it.
