Genki Sushi, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong

Rexcel reviews Genki Sushi in Mandaluyong City, one of her favourite restaurants in Manila.

It was love at first sight with Genki Sushi in SM Megamall.

One day in 2018, we stumbled upon this slightly hidden away restaurant in Megamall and we have been going back there regularly ever since.

Since that first visit 2 years ago, it has remained our favourite sushi place in Metro Manila. Every time we are in Megamall and we cannot decide where to eat, all we have to do is ask each other, What about Genki? and we will both grin and agree immediately!

Yesterday, after maybe 2 or more months since the last time we were there, we went to Genki Sushi, in Megamall, again.

What we ate

Small Salmon Set ₱500

Small Salmon Set ₱500

This is a promotion item introduced by Genki Sushi Megamall recently, maybe about 6 months or so ago, and we are happy to see it still being offered in the outlet.

The Small Salmon Set is actually a Take-Away menu item; I suppose specifically meant for the booming Express Food Delivery business, such as the ones offered by foodpanda, LalaFood and others. But the server who recommended it to us the very first time, suggested we order the dish to enjoy with our meal inside the restaurant.

We love it! We always order it now.

The Small Salmon Set comes with:

  • 4 slices of Salmon Sashimi (à la carte: ₱250)
  • 2 pieces of Salmon Belly Sushi (à la carte: ₱90)
  • 2 pieces of Seared Salmon with Black Pepper Sushi (à la carte: ₱140)
  • 6 pieces of Salmon Maki Sushi (à la carte: ₱90)

Seared Grilled River Eel ₱170

We always try to have at least one sushi we have never tried before in Genki Sushi Megamall and this Seared Grilled River Eel is one off that list.

I love it! 😍

Definitely something that we will order again and again, I am sure.

That little sachet served with this sushi happens to be a condiment, a sauce, that you pour over the sushi just before popping the sushi in your mouth! At least that is what the server suggested we do.

Yellow Tail ₱150

Again, the Yellowtail sushi is not something we have ever tried before in Genki Sushi Megamall. Not really something we enjoyed though.

Where we sat

We always sit around the same place – we always get a table in the middle (row) of the restaurant. Table nos. 26, 27, or 28.

View of the tables from my seat.

For some strange reason that we cannot quite explain ourselves, we have never been interested to sit anywhere else inside this restaurant. 😕 Now, as I type this, I realise how crazy that must sound!

Never mind, I am making a determination here and now to explore the rest of the restaurant on our next trip there. Then, I will update this space with any new information and insights.

Best Tables

For us, like we already said, we like to sit in the middle of the restaurant – any table in the middle row of tables.

There is one other row of tables with a view of the main street outside but we have never sat there before and we cannot tell you if the view makes a difference or not.

Row of tables by the glass window (glass window is on the right, hidden in this image); with a view of the main street below.

When it was time for us to leave the restaurant this time, we even asked the Manager what he thought was the best table in the restaurant, and he said, All our regular customers like the tables in the area that you are seated.

I don’t think Genki Sushi Megamall is the kind of restaurant that you need to have reservations, normally. But if you do decide to call them, the phone number is listed below.

Our meal (for 2 persons) this time cost us just ₱895 including the 10% Service Charge and 12% VAT.

We already had our lunch elsewhere a few hours earlier, and we just dropped by Genki Sushi this time to have a quick bite because we were only slightly hungry from all the walking and shopping.

Darling Leticia, our goddaughter, also loves Genki Sushi Megamall

Typically though, we can spend anywhere between ₱1,200 – ₱1,600 (for 2 persons) whenever we are eating our main meal (lunch) in this outlet. So, it is not really cheap.

All prices on the menu are subject to 10% Service Charge but inclusive of 12% VAT.
